The First African-American Female Licensed by NASCAR-Tia Norfleet

PowerPoint Presentation
The first and only African-American female licensed by NASCAR recently made her debut at the Motor Mile Speedway in Fairlawn, Va.

Tia Norfleet, the daughter of 20-year veteran NASCAR driver, Bobby Norfleet, has raced under her father’s tutelage since age 9. During her Aug. 4 inaugural race, the Virginia native, proved to the racing world her true passion for the sport.

Norfleet said the journey to this point has taught her and her entire team “patience and perseverance in all things.

”This, today, is the result of persevering,” the 25-year-old said. “I am truly honored and truly blessed to be able to experience this moment with my family and to race with some of the best drivers in the sport.”

Despite this impressive record, Norfleet is committed to more than racing. Off track,  she has a literacy program called Driven 2 Read, in which she is developing a platform to help inspire children to read.

It is a merit-based reading program designed to encourage young people to increase their reading proficiency through the power of motor sports.
